What is belief?

Belief according to Webster's New World Dictionary is:  the state of believing; conviction or acceptance that certain things are true or real.  Faith.  Trust or confidence.  Anything believed or accepted as true.

What we habitually believe and think will manifest in our lives one way or another.  Our habitual mental patterns have creative power.  We have free will and therefore can control our thoughts and beliefs.  Maybe it is time to question some of our beliefs and habitual thoughts.  You can choose to let go of other's beliefs.   It is time to take back your own power by deciding to create new beliefs that will serve and honor you.  Life is a mirror reflecting our current beliefs and thought patterns.  Change those old self defeating beliefs and thought patters and you will create new experiences.

We have all grown up with many untruths or false beliefs or agreements about ourselves.  Someone’s opinion (a belief not based on absolute certainty or positive knowledge) gave us some false information about ourselves and we unknowingly bought into these opinions when they are just that  - opinion not fact.

Many of the false and limiting beliefs we have are passed on to us from parents, caretakers, teachers, religious leaders, politicians, movies, magazines, and any media form.  Often times our parents were raised with many false agreements and then unknowingly passed those false agreements along to us.  These false beliefs or distortions of the truth are fear based and many of them contradict one another.  These contradictory beliefs then lead to contradictory behaviors.  These conflicting behaviors are in direct result of unquestioned beliefs.

As an innocent child we had no way of consciously understanding that much of what was

told or taught to us was just someone’s opinion of us and the world and not fact at all.  Many of these untruths, false assumptions and distortions of truth, opinions and beliefs may have led to much discomfort and unhappiness along the way. Now as an adult you can choose to create your own beliefs.  You can choose to only create beliefs that are in your best interest and that serve you well in this lifetime.  You can "sense" whether an old belief is truth or fiction. When you catch your self thinking or believing thoughts that don't serve you immediately interrupt this thought or belief by saying the words "STOP!  Excuse Me!  I was meaning to think this....." and fill in the blank with a more positive affirming statement.  For help in creating more positive affirming thoughts and beliefs please read the following article Four Kinds of Affirmations.

If our life is not going quite the way we want it to go, then maybe it is time for each one of us to start questioning our beliefs, opinions and judgments about ourselves and others.  Maybe, just maybe, you will finally awaken to the truth that it was all opinion and very little fact.

Let’s go forward this year with less judgment and more acceptance of ourselves and those around us.  Try not to “buy into” someone’s opinions and/or gossip about you or others.  Make the decision to be more gentle and forgiving and accepting with yourself and those you come in contact with on a daily basis. Ask yourself this question:  "What would I have to believe in order to create a better life for myself?"

The Law of Attraction gives us exactly what we expect to receive.  What we expect to receive is formed by what we believe we will receive.  Re-examine all of your beliefs and release those that are not serving you well.  Ask this question:  "Is this belief serving me today?"    Choose to create new and positive affirming beliefs that will support you.  One way to start doing that is to use one of the Four Kinds of Affirmation Statements.

"Re-examine all you have been told.  Dismiss what insults your soul."  Walt Whitman
