Sleep and Spiritual Development
Sleep is important on our journey for spiritual
development. We are spiritually recharged during sleep. Sleep
brings counsel. Pray and ask for guidance before sleep and the answers
will come your way. Your subconscious mind never sleeps. It is
alert and operating 24/7. Let the subconscious mind take over during
your sleeping hours and you will get the answers and guidance you are
seeking.
Adequate sleep is essential for joy and vitality in life.
Many studies recommend eight hours of sleep a night. I know that seems
impossible for many of you that have so much on your plate. You must
choose your mental health and well being by prioritizing sleep.
A good habit to develop and that encourages a good sleep night is a routine
time to go to bed and wake in the morning. Routine is key for good
nights sleep. For example: I go to bed at 11:00 pm and wake at
8:30 am. I need more than the recommended eight hours. You may
need more or a bit less than the recommended eight hours. Let your
mind and body be your guide. The idea is to get into a routine
time of going to bed and waking up each morning. Worse case scenario
is if you can't get the recommended eight hours or close to that then try
getting in 10 to 20 minute naps. These naps will refresh your mind and
your body until you can get a routine and regular sleep pattern.
For more restful sleep try the following:
 |
Avoid drinking or eating
caffeinated products at least 8 hours before bedtime.
|
 |
If you watch TV before going to bed only watch positive
calming shows. Nothing violent or disturbing.
|
 |
Listen to relaxation tapes or music that help calm your
mind and body.
|
 |
Have the bedroom temperature cool and keep the room dark
for a restful sleep.
|
 |
If you choose to read before sleep then read something
that will calm the mind and not get your mind over stimulated. Books
on spirituality are very calming.
|
 |
Use an affirmation and repeat it over and over silently
to calm the mind.
|
 |
Pray and thank the universe for all of your blessings.
Prayer and thoughts of gratitude are very calming.
