Save Money on Movies

DVD rentals are really taking off.  My wife and I love movies.  Up until a couple of years ago a date for us was lunch (usually with a coupon) and a movie matinee.  Many times we would go to the second-run theater and pay $1.50 per ticket.  I can’t remember the last time we paid full price of $12 or more for a movie ticket.

We’ve been known to see 30 to 40 movies a year in theaters.  Lately, however, we haven’t been impressed with Hollywood and go to only 6 to 10 movies a year.  We still go on a date at least once a week.

We watch more movies on cable and enjoy some popcorn from the microwave.  We’re waiting for Hollywood to come out with some good pictures.  When they do, we’ll probably wait and see them at the discount theaters.

Netflix, Inc.

DVD rentals are available from NetFlix, Blockbuster, Redbox, CafeDVD.com and others.  Vongo downloads the movie right to your computer.

My brother and his wife live in a small town with only one theater screen.  They have been enjoying NetFlix.  NetFlix delivers DVD’s through the mail with plans starting at about $5 month.  He’s using the $10 plan which allows him to have one DVD at a time with no monthly limit.  We signed up for the Netflix.com 3-at-a-time plan and are loving it.

It can be hard for a DVD to compare to the movie theater experience but then again it’s hard to beat the convenience of watching a rental DVD in your own home from your favorite chair with a nice cool beverage that didn’t cost $5.
