Pay bills Online

Pay your bills online, through auto deduction plans, or use your bank’s free bill pay system to save the inconvenience and expense of having to write and mail checks.

You may either pay the bills one at a time or use an automatic payment feature that routinely makes the payments for you.  Don’t use the automatic feature as a way of hiding from the truth.  Use the time you save for your enjoyment or saving money elsewhere.

We have our credit cards, all of our utilities and a number of other bills paid automatically.  If we had car payments, rent or a mortgage, they would be automated as well.  We never have to worry about late charges, check fees or postage.

Many credit card, mortgage, loan, and utility companies have an automatic payment feature.  You provide them with a bank account number and the payment instructions and they handle the rest.  This is free and convenient.  Some companies are now using internet services such as MyCheckfree.com to handle payments.

The most reliable and secure way to handle bill payment for now is to go through your bank.  There are sites such as PayTrust.com on the internet that you can pay a fee for handling your bills but most banks offer this as a free service.

As always be aware of phishing scams and identity theft.  Deal only with organizations that you know and never give out personal information when there is any question of security.  Banks and companies you are already dealing with will not ask you to verify your information via email.  If you need to change information go directly to the site and navigate from there.
