Do I give them what they want?

Dear Positive Way, If a person says to you that they do not wish to communicate with you anymore and would like you to respect that.  My question is "is caring about someone by giving them what they want"?  How do you define respect? Thanks. signed, Respect, age 39

Dear Respect, Respect is defined as: to show consideration for; avoid intruding upon or interfering with privacy.

Give the person what they want.  Don't force a friendship that is not welcomed.  Care enough to honor and respect their wishes and wish them well with their life and then move on with yours.  What is your level of self-esteem?  If you honor and respect yourself enough you would not hesitate to honor and respect the other's wishes.  Work on your self-esteem and then you will be able to let this person go and move on with your life and create new friendships.  Trying to force someone into communication will only make matters worse and that will not benefit you at all.  Let the friendship go, wish them well, and move forward with your life.

Please understand you have free will.  This advice is given only in the realm of personal growth and self-help. This is not to be considered a substitute for therapy or professional counseling.  We wish you well.
