Can you show your true character?

Dear Positive Way, How can you show anyone "your true character"?  If a person has only seen you through a difficult period in your life and has not seen you for "what you have to offer or the qualities you have, what your values are?", how can one see them differently? signed, True Character, age 39

Dear True Character, That will only happen with time.  Parents have this same problem with their children.  They tend to still see and treat their adult children as a younger child because that is what they experienced before the "true character" appeared once they became an adult.  The other person may never see your true character however any new people that enter your life will.  Don't try to force the "real you" on the person that has only seen you through a difficult time in your life.  Just be who you are today and don't fret or continue to worry about what has happened in the past.  You can't change or fix it so just work from today and move forward being as true to your character as you can be. If the other person has an open mind and heart they will eventually see your true character.
