Together we adapted his Profit Improvement Process to fit the structure and culture of HSB Group, Inc. The objective of our project was to build a lasting process by which HSB could continuously improve our processes and business decisions to benefit the bottom line of the Company. The focus was on three levels - revenue generation, loss control, and expense management. Steve was very professional in his approach with the senior management of the Company; with the oversight committee and to the 250 people he personally trained in the Profit Improvement Process. Over 5,000 ideas for profit improvement were created and evaluated just during his training. He responded to any and all issues in an effective and timely manner. He was flexible in dealing with the culture of our Company. Steve introduced the Profit Improvement Process from his creative problem solving background. He was further able to introduce HSB and its people to the Creative Problem Solving process in many areas of the company. This process has taken hold and has made us a much more effective company moving from problems to resolution quickly. We now make decisions from a bottom line contribution perspective; we identify where the payback will come from; and we are holding people accountable. To-date (since the role out in February 2000) we have identified almost $6 million in savings over the next two years and have realized almost $2 million of that in a 7-month period. We have made a significant return on our investment in this short time period and anticipate an ongoing contribution to our profitability. Steve was a pleasure to work with. He set a standard for appreciating everything and everyone around him. There was not one effort that went unrecognized.
